    Synopsis

Accountable provides real-life examples of how crucial issues -- including health care, education, the economy, unequal justice, and the environment -- manifest themselves in our communities. The book demonstrates the urgent need to hold politicians and ourselves responsible, because the stakes have never been higher. Accountable examines present-day conditions and the consequences for America. At its core, this book is a tool with which the community can evaluate the successes or failures of its political leaders and of itself. This insightful book acknowledges the mistakes of the past while offering hope and inspiration for a better future.

    Publishers Weekly

Bestselling author and television host Smiley picks up where he left off in his previous book to offer a critical look at the problems facing America and to grade the government (and society at large) on its efforts to substantively confront them. Ever the consummate professional, Smiley delivers his message of hope and promise with a commanding tone that demands his audience's attention. His candid and polished reading gives his political messages an arresting personal touch. An Atria paperback. (Feb.)

June 10, 2009: I would love to see ACCOUNTABLE become part of the public high school curriculum. This book is filled with valuable information and should become the core of the American Education System. Accountable can only help to nuture young minds, strenthen our philosophies and continue to "make America as good as its promise." Accountable is a great tool, a work book that will stand the test of time.

March 11, 2009: This book is a wonderful blueprint for everyday Americans to do their part. If you understand how a democracy works, you know that most of the laws that affect you day to day are mad by your local officials. If you do not do your part and make them accountable, then every door that we knocked on and every phone call that I made for our new president is in vain. I am very active politically and I have already seen the numbers dwindle after the election. How can President Obama do what we have elected him to do if we don't do our part by holding all of the officials underneath him Accountable? This book shows you how to do it. Thank you Tavis for continuing to be a pillar in the community and continuing to support our President the best way you can. This book in my opinion is a love letter to America. The entire trilogy is a love letter to the America that "is good as its promise."
