    Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Jonathan Dugas, Ph.D. (UIC College of Applied Health Sciences)
Description:This book has become the standard in exercise testing and prescription. It is an all-encompassing reference for anyone who works with exercise.
Purpose:The aim, according to the editors, is to provide an immediately accessible source of information for exercise testing. In fact, there has always been a great need for this kind of resource, and this latest edition goes beyond expectations.
Audience:The book is written for anyone who works with exercise, ranging from undergraduate students to health professionals. Although it is intended for a wide audience, the book is able to deliver the meaningful and important information when needed, regardless of the setting. The list of contributors is vast and inclusive, and represents decades of clinical and other experience in exercise testing.
Features:All aspects of exercise testing are covered, as well as how to use and apply exercise to health, fitness, and disease. The spiral binding provides easy access to any page, and its relatively small size means it fits easily in a large pocket or small bag. Most importantly, these two characteristics combine to make a book that is incredibly easy to use in an applied setting, which is when practitioners need it most.
Assessment:Now in its eighth edition, this book has maintained its important status. It is essential for anyone who works with exercise, regardless of the setting. The revisions, such as additional tables and figures, allow the communication of even more information while still retaining its small size.
