Synopsis

ACLS Scenarios: Core Concepts For Care-based Learning is the 'missing link' for ACLS students. This Handbook lets students take the course the way the instructors are teaching it: in a scenario-based format. In addition, ACLS Scenarios: Core Concepts for Care-based Learning provides the only complete treatment of the ACLS Supplemental Cases (Shock, Toxicology, Drowning, Electrocution, Hypothermia, Trauma, Pregnancy). This text also introduces the Five Quadrads approach, a powerful new conceptual tool for ACLS providers.

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

This new study guide maximizes the practitioner and/orstudents' ability to learn advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)content. Each algorithm according to American Heart Association (AHA)standards is discussed using the case studies. Practical informationis introduced using the Five Quads approach, which focuses on a primaryand secondary assessment. The purpose is to present a case-basedversus subject-based text for teaching and learning ACLS. The primaryoutcome of this is improved patient outcomes after emergencytreatment. This book is mandatory for all practitioners (MDs, RNs,and EMTs) working in emergency medical settings. It is the only bookavailable that integrates the algorithms, subject content, andreal-life case studies. This book is extremely easy to follow andoffers the learner options to review or study content during theanalysis of the case studies. The Five Quads conceptualize ideas andassist the reader in this process. This study guide presents the coreconcepts of each AHA algorithm in a case study format. Interventionsare comprehensively discussed after the reader has had an opportunityto independently analyze the case study and plan appropriate strategiesfor resolution of the medical problems. Sidebars present protocols, recommendations, and directions for use of equipment. Practicalcomments on the most effective pharmacological, physiological, andpsychosocial interventions are also discussed. It is very valuable asa resource for every practitioner caring for patients inlife-threatening crises.
