Description: This CD-ROM offers medical transcriptionists (MTs) a way to insure that correct style, usage, and grammar standards are applied to their day-to-day documentation. The installation disk loads easily and completes in a matter of seconds.
Purpose: The purpose of this publication is to provide MTs a quick and usable resource at their fingertips. Without this software, MTs would have to stop, locate the AAMT Book of Style, research their question, go back to their document, and apply the information. Now in just seconds, MTs can complete the research and be on to the next dictation within moments. Given today's productivity standards, every second that MTs are not typing they are losing money, thus immediate access to needed information without leaving the keyboard is a major benefit.
Audience: This is intended for students and professionals in all specialties. It is useful not only for MTs for the transcription of dictated services, but also as a good resource for quality managers, auditors, and training specialists. AAMT is the leading organization in the medical transcription field. In working with other reputable companies such as Stedman's and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, they have achieved a quality tool that assists professionals in the production of quality medical documentation.
Features: This resource can be used both in the classroom and the workplace. Loading of the software is easy and trouble free and any novice should be capable of completing the installation successfully. It is consistent with providing the quality and structure that the MT desires. The information and presentation is clean, concise and basic. Bookmarks and search engines are easy to use. The layout was a little bland; more color and artwork would provide visual enhancement. As for performance, I did have trouble locating the appendixes. After reading the instructions, I was able to choose a word from the search index box, which then gave me the option of clicking on a link to the corresponding appendix. This is not a hard task, if one is lucky enough to find the word in the index. Unfortunately, if one does not know in what appendix the information could be found, it appears one must scroll the entire index looking for an appropriate cross reference. This is both time consuming and frustrating, and a return to the manual provided immediate resolution.
Assessment: "This resource provides what it says it will. One can browse the index by topic, search for topics by category or search by topic. All this can be done without one's hands ever leaving the keyboard, thus providing an MT the resource to quickly and accurately produce a document. It is a user-friendly product and pretty basic in design and layout. I would have liked to have seen a little more pizzazz incorporated into the viewing. Although the information is readily accessible and easily displayed, the simplicity left me wanting more. "
