CAUGHT BETWEEN DUTY AND DESIRE . . .
Sophie, the Duchess of Calton, has finally moved on. After seven years mourning the loss of her husband, Garrett, at Waterloo, she has married his cousin and heir, Tristan. Sophie gives herself to him body and soul. . . until the day Garrett returns from the Continent, demanding his title, his lands-and his wife.
TORN BETWEEN TWO HUSBANDS . . .
Now Sophie must choose between her first love and her new love, knowing that no matter what, her choice will destroy one of the men she adores. Will it be Garrett, her childhood sweetheart, whose loss nearly destroyed her once already? Or will it be Tristan, beloved friend turned lover, who supported her through the last, dark years and introduced her to a passion she had never known? As her two husbands battle for her heart, Sophie finds herself immersed in a dangerous game-where the stakes are not only love . . . but life and death.
A HINT OF WICKED
Two devastatingly handsome gentlemen vie for the love of the beautiful Sophie, duchess of Calton, in this debut historical romance, which delivers almost too thoroughly on its heart-tearing premise. Garrett, duke of Calton, returns to England barely recovered from amnesia following the battle of Waterloo and finds that after thinking him dead for eight years, Sophie has married his cousin and best friend, Tristan, now duke in his place. Sophie is torn between her sensual attraction to Tristan and her childhood love for-and legal bond to-Garrett, while the rivalry wrecks the men's lifelong friendship and pulls Sophie's two young children between their warring fathers. Haymore portrays the three so intensely and sympathetically that by the end, all of Sophie's possible choices seem guaranteed to bring misery to the lovers, leaving readers distressed and unsatisfied. September 02, 2009: Sophie, the Duchess of Calton had been in mourning for seven years, when they had declared her husband, the Duke of Carlton dead, in the battle of Waterloo. She even bore him a daughter, that he had never seen. Now she's married to Tristan, the new Duke of Calton. One evening Sophie's quite, happy life came to a screeching halt. Her first husband, Garrett surprises both Sophie and Tristan in their bedroom by coming back from the dead. Sophie now has a delima, she has two husbands, who she loves unconditionally and who both love her.
I'm very wary of trying new authors, but Jennifer Haywoods debut book is fantastic. I had trouble putting it down to go to sleep. I love her plot and characters. Hasn't any woman wondered what would I do if I had two husbands? I know the whole sleeping arrangement thing would be complicated, because men can be such..... But hey, one can dream.Reader Rating:

June 29, 2009: I started reading A Hint of Wicked late one night thinking I would just read a few pages before I went to sleep, but quickly found myself completely absorbed in the love triangle between childhood friends and unable to put it down.
Garrett, the Duke of Calton, fell in love and had been happily married to Sophie for four years when he is called to duty to fight in the battle of Waterloo where he is wounded and presumed dead. Seven grief stricken years pass, and during that time best friends Sophie and Tristan, the new Duke of Calton, find solace in each others arms, fall in love and marry. After eight years of being missing Garrett returns wanting to resume his old life, only to find he has been proclaimed dead, his heir has become the new Duke of Calton, and his wife is now married to the man he once considered as close as a brother. How does he begin to get his life and his wife back? Does Tristan resolve himself to losing everything that he holds dear...Sophie? And how does Sophie choose between Garrett whom she loved passionately in her youth, and Tristan whom she loves deeply as a grown woman? A Hint of Wicked is the first historical romance this year I have reviewed that I can honestly say that I loved. I had been eager to read this one form the moment I first read about it, and was actually a little bit wary that I might have built it up too much in my head, and as a result setting myself up for disappointment. Don't despair if you have read an abundance of mediocre historical romances lately like I have. Never fear Wicked is here to end the doldrums! This is the first novel that I have read by Jennifer Haymore so I did not know what to expect. Now I know. I should expect a compelling story with intrigue, lots of emotion, very steamy loves scenes for a traditional historical romance, and I should plan to devour it in one sitting...everything else can wait. I honestly could not put the book down. I had to find out who Sophie would choose, and surprisingly I was not able to guess until the very end of the book. It was that well written. I will eagerly be anticipating the next book in the series, A Touch of Scandal, her sequel to A Hint of Wicked, which was wickedly good.I have 5 copies of A Hint of Wicked from Forever Publishing to give away on my blog Seductive Musings.
