July 02, 2008: This is the only book of freshwater fishes I have found that actually has every freshwater fish in North America. Most freshwater fish books out there are only interested in game fish and over look the diversity of topminnows, killifish, and the other smaller fish that are just as important as, and often more abundant than, the game fish. If you have any interest in knowing ALL of the freshwater fish this is the book you want to have. There are some books you can find on a state by state basis that are also helpful (unfortunately I haven't found one for Florida, the area I was interested in). I would also recommend finding a local species list to assist in narrowing down species.
