After the russian revolution turns her world topsy-turvy, Anna, a young russian countess, has no choice but to flee to england. penniless, Anna hides her aristocratic background and takes a job as servant in the household of the esteemed westerholme family, armed only with an outdated housekeeping manual and sheer determination. Desperate to keep her past a secret, Anna is nearly overwhelmed by her new duties—not to mention her instant attraction to rupert, the handsome earl of westerholme. to make matters worse, rupert appears to be falling for her as well. As their attraction grows stronger, Anna finds it more and more difficult to keep her most dearly held secrets from unraveling. And then there’s the small matter of rupert’s beautiful and nasty fiancée. . . .
Anna, the beautiful, new maid at the Westerholme estate, keeps two very important secrets from those who work below stairs with her and from those for whom she works. The first secret is she is a Russian Countess who fled Russia following the Russian Revolution. Her family's resulting, financial ruin prompted her to seek employment as a servant at this English estate. The second secret is that she has fallen in love with her employer, Rupert, Earl of Westerholme. To complicate matters further, Rupert is engaged to be married to a rich American, Muriel Hardwick, who intends to use her finances to resurrect his weakening estate. As Muriel begins to interfere with the inner workings of Westerholme, as her prejudices towards handicapped and Jewish people emerge, and as Anna befriends Rupert, he begins to question his decision to marry Muriel after all. Filled with the dramatic intricacies required of a romance, this book has well-developed characters and enthralling plot twists and is sure to please young ladies who enjoy period pieces about falling in love. July 30, 2008: This book was terrific. I wish I had a memory blaster so i could forget all about it and read it again, i wanted it to go on forever! i started it this afternoon and finished it around forty minutes ago, i didn't once put it down. this book has so many twists and lovable, engaging characters read this, and you're guaranteed to fall as much in love with it as i did, and perhaps a rather empty feeling once you've finished.

November 03, 2007: this book is good if you just feel like reading a book to pass time. its was slow and at times boring and confuzing. she never really talks about the romance between rupert and anna. most of the book is about thoughts and not really romance. it isnt until the ending that you realize that anna and rupert love eachother. the other charactors seem to fall just short of being 'human' they dont do much but sit around and talk feeling sorry for themselves. another thing about this book was that nobdy ever told rupert that his wife to be is a total B****. the only charactor in the book that i liked was the dog. he seemed to be the only one to make a tranformation. the story line was good but not followed through. the strong writing im used to from her isnt here. and i was dissapionted.
