    Synopsis

After losing one of its own, Lindsay Boxer and the Women’s Murder Club make a courageous return for their fourth and most chilling case ever--one that could easily be their last.

A young girl is killed in crossfire after a routine arrest goes terribly wrong, and Lt. Lindsay Boxer has to defend herself against a charge of police brutality. In a landmark trial that transfixes the nation, Lindsay fights to save her career and her sanity.

While awaiting trial, Lindsay escapes to the beautiful town of Half Moon Bay, but the peaceful community there is reeling from a string of unspeakable murders. Working with her friends in the Women’s Murder Club, Lindsay finds a link between these killings and a case she worked on years before--an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since.

As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay battles for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax, and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings--including killing again. It all comes to a head before the big annual 4th of July celebration on the waterfront at Half Moon Bay.

Patterson fine-tunes the tension like never before in this heart-racing new novel in the bestselling detective series to debut in years.

    Publishers Weekly

Mega-bestseller Patterson teams up with journalist/novelist Paetro for a rousing fourth installment of the Women's Murder Club series. This time, bright, tough SFPD Lt. Lindsay Boxer is battling police brutality charges while chasing down a clan of murderers. When a botched police arrest of two gun-toting minors expands from a shaky preliminary hearing to what promises to be a nerve-rattling jury trial of Lindsay, she flees the pre-trial media frenzy for the serene haven of sister Cat's house in Half Moon Bay. But instead of finding relaxation and romance with her Homeland Security beau, Lindsay becomes embroiled in the ruthless crimes of a troika of killers who've been slashing and flogging victims all over town. With surprisingly little aid from the Murder Club, Lindsay performs her detective handiwork (and steps on the toes of Half Moon's police chief). As more bodies surface, sketchy suspects like a smitten grease monkey and a slimy porn star emerge, then the murderous threesome set their sights on Lindsay. Back in San Francisco, Lindsay is acquitted; she then rushes back to Half Moon Bay to apprehend the elusive villains and put to rest her unresolved first homicide case as well. Heroic super-sleuthing, a steadily gripping plot line and 146 snappy chapters add up to suspense fiction euphoria for Patterson's legion of fans. Biography

Not making any bones about his bid for success, James Patterson once declared he wanted to be known as “the king of the page-turners.” While that may seem like a pretty grand ambition, Patterson is as worthy of that title as any author working today.

March 05, 2008: Despite publishing around six novels a year, James Patterson is a master of thrills. For around fifty existing novels he has written, I found each and every book I have read by him has kept me turning the pages nervously. I loved Fourth of July, as one of the best. It begins when a teenager is electracuted in his bathtub at an apartment. Soon later, a car chase begins and two frigtened teens are in it. One is killed, the other paralyzed.Lindsay saw Jacobi shot twice and she was hit hard in the shoulder and thigh. When recovering, Lindsay finds out she is being sued for the shootout. Before the trial, Lindsay nervoulsly watches her sisters house in Moonlight Bay when she researches the murders, where the previous murders have taken place. The police department tells her to lay off. Lindsay meets with her group a few days before the trial and discusses the murders with the Womens Murder Club--made up of Cindy, Claire, and Lindsay, while Jill was previously killed in the third novel, Third Degree. During the trial, Lindsay is found NOT guilty and returns to Moonlight Bay. She is now determined to figure out the murderer. The killer knows she is doing this, and as a warning, shoots up the sister's house. After getting out of the shot up house, she links together the clues and finds out the murderer is a man who has previously been following her. The killer confesses and arrested immediatley. At the climax, Alison Brown, Lindsay's friends daughter, until she finds the other two killers who are involved in a vigilant group. At the end of the book, Boxer finally rejoins the police force. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would defintely call it OUTSTANDING. If you have read the other three books, I would tell you to at once go out and purchase this book!

February 05, 2008: The fourth installment in the Women's Murder Club series was really didapointing! There was hardly any discussion about the members of the Women's Murder Club. I was expecting more from this brilliant author. It was interesting and exciting but a big let down after the previous three.
