As the number of uninsured Americans reaches epic numbers, here's a concise and convincing guide that explains why national health care is the only approach that makes sense.
"Health care is not just another commodity. It is not a gift to be rationed based on the ability to pay."Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA)
The United States spends twice as much as other industrialized nations on health care, yet our system performs poorly in comparison and still leaves 46 million without health coverage and millions more inadequately covered.
Imagine a health care program that is publicly funded and covers all basic medical services from doctor visits, hospitalization, and long-term care to prescription drugs, dental care, and mental health. 10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care offers an array of powerful arguments for why and how this could become a reality. With fact-filled chapters written by leading physicians, health care professionals, policy makers, business-people, labor organizers, and others, this book shows how a national health care system is simpler, more inclusive, saves money, is good for business, will reduce health care disparities, and is a fundamental human right.
In time for the 2008 elections and following on the heels of Michael Moore's Sicko, 10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care offers powerful ammunition in favor of a fundamental change to American health careand shows how we really can develop a comprehensive national health program for the United States.

June 30, 2009: If you are confused with the health care issues today, this book will clarify matters about Universal Health Care and the single payer option.
Rep. John Conyers, Jr., sponsor of HR 676 wrote the foreword and this book supports his bill in Congress.TEN EXCELLENT REASONS FOR NATIONAL HEALTH CARE explains how we got into a health care crisis and how a single-payer system would work. It answers many questions like:What is the cost? Will we have the same high-quality health care that we have now? Will I be able to choose my own Dr. and make my own medical decisions? The many contributors to this book have long histories in the health care field. I found the book very valuable reading. There is a short synopsis of what a single-payer system of health care would be like. In clear, concise language it explains how a single-payer program works, why is is most cost-effective, and affordable to the most people, and the most advantageous plan for the consumer.I would recommend this book to anyone who is confused over the health care controversy.
