Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.
Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

More Reviews and RecommendationsJay Asher got the idea for Thirteen Reasons Why at a museum. While taking an audio tour, he was struck by the eeriness of the voice in his ear–a woman who described exactly what he was looking at, but wasn’t there. Jay lives on the central coast of California. Thirteen Reasons Why is his first book.

Ok, so I finished the book a while back, and since it has changed the way I act towards people. This book I couldn't put down. When I finished the book I was so depressed, but it wasn't a bad kind of depression. I would recommend this book to anyone, it is one of the best books that I've read in a while.

normally, im a person partiular about endings. in my opinion, the ending was a huge letdown, and normally i would never TOUCH the book again. if you ruin the ending, the last sentence the reader things about, and the way it all wraps together, you ruined the WHOLE BOOK. like i said, this was probably one of my top ten least favorite endings, yet my top third favorite book. you MUST READ THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU DIE. its definetly worthy of putting on your bucket list. it has changed my life and extremely often i just pick it up, open it, and read wherever that may happen to be. the best first book from a particular author (except first books in series) that i have read...probably ever
