Biography

His cloistered lifestyle and limited output have not prevented readers and writers from lionizing J. D. Salinger. With one-of-a-kind stories and the classic novel The Catcher in the Rye, he captured, with wit and poignance, a growing malaise in post-war America.

Customer Rating for this product is 2 out of 5 Dissapointed..
Jake, an english student, 08/31/2008

Prior to this book, i had never read a book that I didn't like. This book was very uneventful, and i would not recommend this to anyone. it was slightly comical, mostly because the main character was very immature and sarcastic. I chose this book for an assignment in English because it was a classic. Before i check out my next 'classic', I am definitely going to read the reviews on here.

First off, for those who think this book wanders and has not plot, you're right. It does just that, just like the main character, Holden Caulfield. Duh? What could be more perfect? The book is about lost youth, being a teenager, not knowing what's around the corner, and general angst. What form would you like--everything tied up with a neat bow and some real character development? Fraid not. Remeber being a teenager? If you don't, try, think back. Total misery and uncertanity. So for Salinger to capture this, at a time when no other novelist had done so, was pure genius. Take it for what it's worth.
