    Synopsis

A funny, poignant, and wise novel about a very rich underdog who shows everyone just how little his IQ says about his smarts.

The Washington Post - Carrie Brown

All the familiar ingredients are in this novel: the slow guy with the heart of gold and the disquieting habit of seeing things (and people) for what they are, the unscrupulous family (see Cinderella's evil stepsisters), the unsuitable but loving friends with their steadfast loyalty and kindness. The antidote to the blurry smear of these cliches is a kind of winning particularity. Patricia Wood's portrait of Perry is so vivid and funny and poignant and joyful that it avoids the disappointing flatness of the predictable.

May 24, 2009: I loved this book so much I recommended it for our book group. Truly, everyone should read how this wise man felt about everyday life. He is truly remarkable and really makes you think about "not sweating the small stuff". Would like to buy this book for everyone who has ever wanted to simplify their lives.

March 08, 2009: Nice writing style and interesting story. Written from the perspective of the main character, a young man whose iq is low and many think him to be "retarded"...but he is not! He is cared for by a loving grandmother who passes away, after which he wins the Washington State Lottery. It is then that his mother and "cousin brothers" all come to try to use him and become part of his life. Fortunately, his loving friends protect him...he goes thru loss but also finds love. It is genuine and written from his perspective...simple and sweet. It is a book that you definitely will pass along to others....
