    Synopsis

New York Times bestseller Stuart Woods returns with a fast-paced thriller, starring Ed Eagle, the take-no-prisoners attorney from Santa Fe Rules and Short Straw.

    Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Woods's third thriller to feature prominent New Mexican attorney Ed Eagle (after Short Strawand Santa Fe Rules) opens with a bang, but soon devolves into a fairly predictable cat-and-mouse game. Ed and his girlfriend, actress Susannah Wilde, are watching the Los Angeles trial on Court TV of his villainous ex-wife, Barbara, who stands accused of arranging for his murder, when a reporter announces that Barbara has escaped from custody just before the not guilty verdict. Soon, suitably disguised and under an alias, Barbara contrives to meet a recent widower, Palo Alto billionaire Walter Keeler, at a luxury spa and has him proposing marriage and making a new will in her favor. Meanwhile, her hatred for her ex unquenched, Barbara schemes to have Ed and Susannah killed. Bodies, innocent and otherwise, pile up, but there's little suspense about the outcome, and an improbable coincidence involving the billionaire may strike some as a plot weakness. Author tour. Biography

With several successful mystery series going at once -- the most popular featuring jet-setting cop-turned-lawyer Stone Barrington -- Stuart Woods more than manages to keep focused on a bestselling streak that shows no signs of slowing down.

This is the worst book I ever read.... no kidding.by DiscerningMind

November 30, 2008: This author needs a good editor, with a heavy pen. Boring, repetitive explanations and descriptions. Police detectives reveal details of their investigations to the erstwhile criminal defense attorney... all entirely implausible. I would recommend that readers never touch another book by this author. This guy gets paid to write this drivel???

May 28, 2008: This book was okay. I found a couple of errors and think that someone else should proofread before printing. In this book, Barbara goes to a spa and picks up a bottle of bourbon beforehand since the spa does not serve liquor. In the next chapter, she has a couple of drinks of scotch in her room. She should have been drinking bourbon! Well, at least she is put away for 25 years and we won't have to deal with her for a while.....or will we?
